Botswana’s “Season of Life”

Dear Members,

One of my family’s favorite adventures was in Botswana—from elephant-back safaris at Abu Camp, to water safaris at Vumbura Plains, to Mombo Camp, where the animals walk right under your tent, we had one unforgettable experience after another. Though most people go in high season (Jul-Nov), when the Okavango Delta is flooding, there is no bad time to come here. If you go during the Botswana summer (Nov-Mar), as we did, you’ll have the advantage of seeing baby animals, landscapes vibrant with flowers, a multitude of migratory birds, and an abundance of predators. You’ll also enjoy lower prices and fewer crowds.

If the idea of seeing cheetah cubs romping or birds in spectacular breeding plumage appeals to you, our partner Wilderness Safaris is offering bespoke safaris at a special summer rate, 30% off their high season rate.

Wilderness Safaris runs intimate, eco-friendly camps in a variety of prime habitats across Botswana. Each of these areas is transformed by the summer season in its own way, so no matter which itinerary you choose, your game-viewing experiences are sure to be unique and memorable.

Central Kalahari

Brief rainstorms create lush green landscapes, attracting grazing animals (which, in turn, attract predators). This is one of the best places to see cheetah, often with cubs this time of year. Summer birding is excellent.

Okavango Delta — Land Camps

Luxuriant grass brings antelope and zebra, who come to the plains to give birth. Multiple migratory bird species arrive, offering great opportunities for birding and photography.

Okavango Delta — Water Camps

Permanent floodplains and channels offer the quintessential Okavango experience. Migrant birds arrive in numbers; nesting colonies are at their largest and most active.

Linyanti Region

The Savute Channel is flowing for the first time since 1983, offering exciting new wildlife dynamics. Many antelope species give birth Nov-Dec; lion, leopard and cheetah are resident through the summer.

As my kids will tell you, a Botswana safari is truly remarkable—the kind of experience that changes you forever. And at a 30% savings, Nov-Mar is the most affordable time to go. But even though there are fewer crowds this time of year, space at these exclusive camps is limited, so don’t wait too long.

Warm Regards,
