Holidays in Vietnam

Dear Members,

With its spectacular landscapes, incredible food, and friendly, welcoming people, Vietnam is always a worthwhile destination. But if you want to make your trip even more unforgettable, two of the most exciting times to be there are the Christmas holiday, and Tét (the Vietnamese Lunar New Year), which happens in late January through early February.

Christmas in Dalat December 16 to 27, 2010

In recent years, American-style Christmas has become popular in Vietnam. Expressions of the holiday can be seen all over the country, but most memorably in Dalat, in the heart of Vietnam’s Catholic region. Our partner Indochina Travel Company offers a special “Christmas in Dalat” tour, which explores the fascinating cities, historic towns and pastoral countryside of Vietnam. You’ll spend the Christmas holiday in Dalat, a colonial hill station in the Central Highlands, staying at the magnificent, authentically restored Sofitel Palace. You’ll enjoy a sumptuous Christmas Eve banquet at the Palace, followed by Christmas Day Mass the next morning at Dalat Cathedral.

Tét 2011: Year of the Rabbit Jan 25 to Feb 4, 2011

Described as “everyone’s birthday at once,” the Tét holiday is Vietnam at its most festive. While many travelers think this is a time to avoid, in actuality it’s a wonderful time to visit—the streets of Hanoi, Saigon and other towns are closed to traffic and filled with trees and flowers, Tét markets sprout up, and everyone is in a good mood. Indochina Travel Company offers a special Tét cultural tour, set against the backdrop of this joyous atmosphere. You’ll visit bustling cities and agrarian villages, ancient ruins and Buddhist temples, spending Tét itself in Saigon, where traditional celebrations will be in full swing.

Both tours include Hanoi, with its lively Old Quarter and serene, tree-lined boulevards; kayaking and cruising on magical Halong Bay; the historic temples and tombs of Hue and Hoi An; and complex, capitalist Saigon.

These holidays are very popular – flights, hotels and tours fill up fast, and many families return home to Asia for Tét. If you’d like to go for Christmas or Tét this holiday season, we strongly recommend making your plans now.
