AFAR Experience in South Africa

Dear Members,

AFAR is one of my favorite travel magazines—they focus on the experiential side of travel, the authentic encounters and cultural explorations that uncover the true soul of a destination. AFAR and My Little Swans both share the belief that that travel should be immersive, transformative, and go well beyond the usual tourist routes.

Last year, AFAR began offering AFAR Experiences: special travel events that delve deeply into a fascinating part of the world. This year, the event is in South Africa, a nation with an extraordinary history that stretches all the way from the very origins of mankind, to the turbulent struggle against apartheid, to its recent emergence as Africa’s largest economy.

AFAR Experiences: South Africa October 8-11, 2012

Based in Johannesburg, this 4-day event will immerse you in the traditions of South Africa’s ancient tribes, and offer insights into its eventful past as well as its exciting future. You’ll engage with speakers ranging from anthropologists to political activists, dine with locals at their home, and enjoy modern and traditional dance and musical performances. You’ll visit the township of Soweto, home to Nobel Peace Prize winners Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela, and get exclusive access to the celebrated Apartheid Museum.

Along with the scheduled events, a selection of Breakout Sessions will be offered each day. These curated, one-of-a-kind experiences will give you access to South Africa’s talented artists, historians, chefs, and designers, and allow you to explore your own personal areas of interest.

You’ll enjoy all of this in the company of AFAR’s co-founders, editor in chief, and other members of the AFAR team, as well as like-minded fellow travelers who are curious, empathetic, and share your love of travel.

Space is limited, so register now to join this unique adventure in one of the world’s most remarkable places.

Warm Regards,
Katrina Garnett
