Unique Tanzania Safaris

Dear Members,

No travel experience quite compares to an African safari. Seeing lions, elephants, zebras and giraffes in the wild, following the thundering herds in a mobile-tented camp, meeting nomadic tribes and learning about their culture—these kinds of things will transform you forever. We went to Tanzania for our first safari when my youngest was only six. Our guide was Jan Kortland, of Royal African Safaris, one of the most experienced and sought-after guides in East Africa. He not only put us completely at ease, he made us feel like part of his family. This trip remains my kids’ favorite to this day.

Royal African Safaris has just announced two brand new Tanzania safari itineraries: an 11-day safari filled with one-of-a-kind experiences such as lion tracking, a scenic helicopter flight, and a hot-air-balloon ride, and a 13-day safari and beach itinerary that combines exceptional wildlife viewing with several days of relaxation on the sands of Zanzibar. Jan will be your guide on both of these safaris.

Hot Air Ballooning in Africa

11-Day Safari

Beginning with a stay at Legendary Lodge on the outskirts of Arusha, you’ll continue to Shumata, in the heart of traditional Maasai country. Here, you’ll enjoy fantastic wildlife viewing and close encounters with the Maasai people. You’ll also get to participate in The Lion Guardian program, tracking lions alongside the researchers. Next you’ll drive (or fly by helicopter, if you choose) to Chem Chem Luxury Lodge, nestled between two of Tanzania’s most spectacular parks, Tarangire and Manyara. The highlight of your visit here is an early morning hot-air-balloon ride over Tarangire. Next is Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, where you’ll have two days to enjoy game drives and the lush, romantic surroundings before moving on to the famous Serengeti. Here, you’ll stay at a private, mobile-tented camp, a luxurious and authentic safari experience not to be missed!

13-Day Safari & Beach

After a night at Legendary Lodge, near Kilimanjaro, you’ll head to Mwiba Wildlife Reserve, which offers excellent game sighting year round, and is visited by the annual Great Migration late Dec-early March. You’ll continue to Faru Faru riverside lodge in the untouched Singita Game Reserves, where you can enjoy great game viewing right from the elevated deck. Next is Lamai Camp in the Northern Serengeti, offering uninterrupted vistas of the Serengeti plains and Maasai Mara National Park. Then, it’s off to the romantic island of Zanzibar. You’ll overnight at the authentic Stone Town Hotel, which evokes the splendor of the Sultans, then enjoy three days of beach relaxation at the dramatic Kilindi resort on the Indian Ocean.
