Maldives Surfing Cruise

Dear Members,

As you may know, my family loves boat trips. Going somewhere new every day, discovering secret places accessible only by water, being far from distractions, unpacking only once—all these things make boat trips special. We all love water sports, too, and boat trips usually offer an abundance of them. Our newest water sport is surfing (we took lessons on our summer holiday in Biarritz), so our next ideal holiday might be an itinerary that combines cruising and surfing. And I don’t think there’s a better option in the world than a Maldives surfari aboard our partner Tropicsurf’s Four Seasons Explorer yacht.

Of all Tropicsurf’s surfing destinations, the Maldives is possibly the best for families. It offers a wide variety of surf all year round, suitable for all levels of ability. It’s remote enough to be pristine but closer to North America than some other destinations. And there are plenty of activities available besides surfing, including snorkeling, stand-up paddling, kayaking, island sightseeing, cultural presentations, and spa treatments.

Then there’s the Four Seasons Explorer itself—a 128-foot luxury catamaran that carries a maximum of 20 guests and offers both shared and private charters (a group of 12 or more can charter privately). Tours are 7 to 10 days, visiting rarely surfed breaks in the Outer Atolls. You won’t find itineraries for these tours because each one is custom-designed around the guests’ abilities and where the waves are breaking best, and also to keep these breaks a secret. (Often the Explorer is the only boat within miles.) When you aren’t surfing or doing other water activities, you can enjoy the yacht’s well-equipped suites, dining room and deck, five-star cuisine and fine wines. You can even combine days on the yacht with stays at Four Seasons resorts on the islands.
