topPeru and the Galapagos

Discover two of South America’s most extraordinary places – Machu Picchu and the Galapagos – on this 14-day adventure. You’ll arrive in Lima, Peru, and travel to Cuzco in the Andes mountains. You’ll tour the sites and streets of the old Inca capital before continuing to the “lost city” of the Incas, Machu Picchu. Exploring this wonder of ancient civilization is a truly magical experience – especially at sunrise. You’ll have time to visit the colorful markets of the Sacred Valley before heading to your next destination: the Galapagos Islands, 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador. These “enchanted islands” are a nature lover’s paradise, filled with rare and unique species of animals that show no fear of people. For seven days, you’ll cruise the islands aboard the Alta, a stylish and beautifully equipped 16-passenger yacht.

Day 1
Lima

Arrive Lima and transfer to your hotel

Day 2
Fly Cuzco

Today is spent exploring the old Inca capital and its surrounding archaeological remains. In the morning a walking tour takes you through this mysterious city with its pink tiled roofs, cobbled alleyways and tiny plazas. Visiting the Cathedral, the Inca wall of Hatunrumiyoc with its twelve sided stone and koricancha the Inca sun temple. In the afternoon you visit the fortress citadel of Sacsaywaman that overlooks the city, along with the outlying ruins of Qenko and Tambomachay.

Day 3
Train to Machu Picchu

An early morning train ride, following the Urubamba River takes you to the 'lost city' of Machu Picchu. You can alternatively leave the train slightly earlier and walk via Winay Wayna to the sun gate overlooking Mach Picchu (5-6hrs). On arrival you will be guided through this unique site, leaving you the afternoon to explore on your own. Accommodation is in the Machu Picchu sanctuary lodge located next to the ruins.

Day 4
In Machu Picchu

Due to the location of your accommodation you will be the first inside the ruins. Sunrise here is magnificent; clouds slowly rise off the ruins as the sun breaks the Andean range revealing this 'lost city'. The day is spent at your leisure, though we would recommend the steep but short walk to Wayna Picchu, the famous background mountain to Machu Picchu. A late afternoon train takes you back to Cuzco.

Day 5
In Cuzco

Your day is spent in the Sacred Valley visiting the market town of Pisac, where you can buy almost anything, though for people watching it doesn't get much better as locals barter and local dishes are prepared. In the afternoon you drive to the ruins of Pisac, overlooking the Urubamba valley, the ruins were once considered one of the most important in Cuzco due to its strategic location and storage of food.

Day 6
Fly Lima

Your flight to Lima is in the late afternoon allowing you most of the day in Cuzco.

Day 7-14
Fly Galapagos. Yacht Alta

An early morning flight to Ecuador followed by a connecting flight to the Galapagos Islands. Alta is one of the most beautiful yachts in the Galapagos, ideal for travellers who seek exclusivity and uniqueness. She is a three masted staysail schooner, a stylish yacht that has the charm of a sailing ship. Alta is fitted with 8 tastefully decorated cabins that accommodate up to 16 passengers. All cabins have ample space with private facilities and fresh, hot and cold-water showers. Meals can be taken in the dining salon, or "al fresco", on the foredeck. Alta offers many spots for relaxing or sunning, including a sundeck with lounge chairs, and another with cushions on the bow of the yacht. When the conditions are appropriate, the sails will be hoisted.
